It’s not known what killed this Blue Whale, a species known as the largest living animal in the world, but the combination of the king tides and storms we’ve had recently likely washed the body ashore. Eric was headed home from Gold Beach when he noticed this beached whale.

The size is utterly amazing. They can grow up to 100 ft and weigh as much as 150 tons.

  1. sad but an amazing sight. I recall as a kid in the mid 70’s there was a preserved Blue whale touring Scotland – I was a teenager and it was ridiculously big – must see if I can track some links down – no internet back then.

    • I agree that we are killing off far too many of the marvelous creatures we share the planet with. I rather doubt we’ll ever know exactly what killed this whale, though I’m sure they’ll be trying to figure it out.
