wind and spray

Oh! to be a seal, playing in the waves…..waves-3180Nature is not always tricked in holiday attire, but the same scene which yesterday breathed perfume and glittered as for the frolic of the nymphs, is overspread with melancholy today. Nature always wears the colors of the spirit.

  1. It looks very windy the way that spray is coming off the water. It has rained here steadily for the past two days and we now look like we are sitting in the middle of a little pond. There are flash flood alerts all around the area and we have already gotten 3″ of rainfall. O_o

    • Unfortunately you picked the wrong coast this year. I think I would be scared to head west at the moment into tornado alley. I came close enough to one of those things a few years ago on my cross country trip. Wouldn’t want to do it again. It’s been windy here, but yesterday turned much hotter than I like it very suddenly. I’d say the weather is just being downright weird. 😦

  2. Speaking of seals following you….lovely story in the UK Daily Mail today about a young man fascinated by Alaska since infancy who took a series of photos of one penguin first far off then clearly running toward him and near beak in the lens at the last one. The darling boy then has a photo of himself on snow filled hills, in a tuxedo! The penguin was so eager to meet the human. Apparently Alaska’s got some dope’s law about humans disallowed from getting close to penguins. The smarter penguins have smarter legislators.

  3. I ventured out yesterday, got no further than the beach parking lot. As I watched the waves between sweeps of the windshield wipers thought I saw a little pointy head out there in the wild surf. Certain it was just the end of a drift-log I kept watching, sure enough it disappeared and was never seen again. The seals have an uncanny mystique about them and seem to know when they’re being watched.

    • Either that, or I’ve had one seemingly ‘follow’ me as I walked along the beach. I think they are lots of fun, but don’t make for thrilling images with nothing but a little bobble head showing…. except perhaps 😀
Yesterday was rather nasty here, too. I figured it for a good day for soup and a nap… and a good book later. O_o

      • That’s a very nice portrait, fun colors too. Underneath the Alsea Bay bridge at low tide there are perhaps a hundred seals now, hauled out and basking like so many sandbags. A great photo from a high angle overhead, someday I’ll make the hike over the bridge to get it. When the suns out and it’s not to windy… someday…

    • I suppose that might be true anywhere, but our coast is notorious for it’s radical changes in weather. Summer it gets a bit boring (IMHO), but it’s a good time to catch up on stuff around the house. 😀
