ice

This shot of aftereffects of a burst pipe seemed appropriate
Placerville, California (from the archives c. 1979)ice-Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire,
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

  1. This is certainly an appropriate image for what Mother Nature has been handing much of the country this past week. Glad you are not experiencing the harsh weather that so many are.

    • Thank you, but this shot was taken many years ago when I lived in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I’m lucky to live near the Pacific which moderates our climate for the most part. Yes, the rest of the US is being hit badly with storms, but I have about 9ºC and a very light drizzle at the moment.

    • This ice was from a previous life up in the Sierra mountains nearly 40 years ago. We here on the coast have lucked out and haven’t had the insane cold that’s hit much of the rest of the country. The temps have generally been sticking around 5ºC both day and night. The freaky thing that is occurring here is the lack of rain. Last year was the driest on record…. ever!

  2. Very timely and interesting. There is a certain pristine beauty in ice. I hope you are keeping warm my friend. Aren’t we fortunate to have escaped the dreaded “polar vortex”? Speaking of dreaded; be careful with that “Gulp”. I have finished the book and it has left a bad taste in my mouth.

    • It hasn’t been too bad here since that weird cold snap we had before Thanksgiving. Mostly in the 40s (night and day). We are very fortunate indeed. I’ll start listening to ‘Gulp’ in the car the next time I drive somewhere. I generally have a real paper book going for bedtime reading and an audio in the car. I’m curious to check out that bad taste….. 🙂
