Photo Workshop – day four
FINALLY…… a sunrise!!! I had even managed some sleep this time. I was thrilled. I was even fully conscious and functional…
We climbed this huge hill and I needed to stop part way up to catch my breath and this was the view looking south.
The ultimate reward for getting up at such an ungodly hour….. the rosy pinks of a new day- looking north.
Toss in a moon. What more could you possibly wish for….
I see God in a sunrise, not in repetitious ritual.

The group seen off in the distance. Something drew me in another direction while they were all gathered in that one spot.
A closer look… though one seems to be missing. I count nine.
Looking south again as the pinks fade and we headed back down the hill. I did catch the spot of light from Point Sur Lighthouse off in the distance.
What is the meaning of life? That was all- a simple question; one that tended to close in on one with years, the great revelation had never come. The great revelation perhaps never did come. Instead, there were little daily miracles, illuminations, matches struck unexpectedly in the dark; here was one.
― Virginia Woolf, To the Lighthouse

It’s amazing how dark it gets once the sun is above the clouds…but those were beautiful sunrise shots. I rather enjoy the light from your distant lighthouse, as well.
The dark… I think that was more a matter of exposure (one of the things I need to exert a bit more control over). But in this instance, more light probably wouldn’t have shown the spot from the lighthouse. The sunrise was definitely worth getting up for. I really should get up to do that more often…. though I don’t know how likely that’s apt to be. (yawn)
I really like the light from the lighthouse, so whatever you did, it worked! And yes, sunrises are special things…but so are sunsets along the beach…something that you’ve mastered well….
Beautiful
Thank you, jgann.
No problem
It was certainly worth leaving the warmth of your bed for, Gunta!
It most certainly was. (and I was so proud of myself
)
Love th group on the hill. Only one other woman? I wonder if there is ever a chance of spotting whales and dolphins…..
Actually, it was a pretty even distribution… four of the nine were female (not counting the two instructors). I didn’t hear of dolphins, but it’s definitely a spot where whales are seen. I heard of a cove where they gather at given times. That’s not to say there aren’t dolphins.
Nice to know
Oh Gunta, whisk me away there right now. Simply stunning. xxx
Definitely worth the trip. I’m so sorry you missed it! Perhaps next time?
For sure!
Yes, there is magic in those golden moments at first light. And grumpy or not, you have delightfully captured some of those “little daily miracles, illuminations, matches struck unexpectedly in the dark.” Thanks…
My pleasure entirely…. despite the grumpy mode. Truthfully though, I was so excited to be catching the sunrise that grumpy didn’t enter into it.
Looks like a grand time, Gunta! I’m loving the 1st shot & the last shot. Both are moody and spectacular in their own different ways. Well done!
Thanks Tahira. Every bit of the trip and workshop were truly wonderful and endless fun. Though I wish the endless had lasted a bit longer…
