Rīga
It’s not exactly a challenge, but Ese’s Voice posted a video of Rīga, capital of Latvia. Not to be outdone, I decided I’d post a favorite clip of my own:

Nice!!
Very nice…what a beautiful place.
I’m very tempted to visit it again.
Sounds like a wonderful idea.
If only it didn’t involve flying. I hate the mob scene and hassle of flying these days.
I’ve heard that they serve certain kinds of refreshments on board that help with that type of anxiety.
But, I don’t blame you either….
I hope to go to Riga some day. It is not so far..
Lucky you. It’s really far for me! I eagerly wait to see pictures if you do go!
Brilliant!
Awww, so wonderful!
Makes me want to pack my bags.
Great video Gunta. The architecture is fabulous and the hot-air balloon festivals always intrigue me. Looks like a delightful place to visit.
The architecture is what the old town is known for. But I agree, I love the hot-air balloons.
What a jolly and fast-paced tour of Rīga. That sliding down the pole made my insides do funny things.
It had me rivetted right until the beautiful moon shot at the end. Now I want to go there.
I want to go, too. Perhaps we’ll meet in Rīga. Wouldn’t that be fun?
It certainly would be fun. We could slide down the pole together.
The story behind the pole is that they are lit for the Midsummer Celebration (the biggest day of the year). Latvia is far enough north that the sun just barely sinks below the horizon during Summer Solstice. Those burning poles or huge bonfires are lit at each farm across the country along with lots of celebration throughout the long day and night. I suppose it’s to make up for the dark days they go through around this time of year.
Great video!
Love the lighting up balloons
That was pretty impressive, indeed.
I think it’s time for me – visiting (again) in this beautiful city…
- all because of “Esenga” and “Gunta”… ‘hahahaha’
Great video…
Thanks, Daffy…. so glad you enjoyed them both. We should sign on with the tourism agency!
Yours is soooo much better, Gunta! Without those “parade moments” of Clinton, the Pope etc. there’ re in mine and so much more fun, vital and positively charged.
Ah, but I like the opening of yours better… the birds and the really cool shot of the cat. I almost wish I could slow this one down just a tad. But they both have their moments. How could they miss with such a lovely place?
I had fun also doing a bit of a guessing game with yours, a quick one: Recognize, this also, that not sure, hmm…maybe, this most definitely etc…
I did a tiny bit of guessing, too. Far less than you. I’m glad you had fun with it….

Ar labu nakti!
It’s a very beautiful city Gunta. I loved the city in the snow. Glad you posted!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I hope to make it back to see it one of these days.
Now that is tempting!
It was/is a beautiful city, even during the Soviet era when I last visited. I hear it’s undergone a truly lovely restoration since then. I keep thinking I ought to visit at least once more….
you know you should…
Yes, but there’s inertia and the thought of leaving Sissy…..
Beautiful place, beautiful people and now my wanderlust has awakened again. Thanks for the clip.
My wanderlust is awakened, too. I’ve only been back once (1989) since I left as an infant, but that was still during the Soviet era. I’d love to see for myself how it’s been restored since then.
